Meet Your Instructors

  • Jess Garcia

Owner and operator of Oak Creek Family Farm

Canning began as a practical skill for Jess—a way to make the most of the harvest and feed her large family. Over time, it became a heartfelt passion rooted in self-sustainability, tradition, and connection. With no formal background, Jess learned the ropes through trial, error, and persistence, developing a deep appreciation for the art (and science) of preserving food.

Now, canning is part of the rhythm of life on the farm—a family-centered, music-filled process that turns fresh ingredients into shelf-stable meals and memories. Jess is excited to share her hard-earned knowledge, practical tips, and love for canning with you in this hands-on class. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to brush up on the basics, she’s here to help you build confidence and find joy in the process.

  • Kim Mulvihill

Owner and operator of Archie Hills Family Farm

Kim is the owner and operator of Archie Hills Family Farm just outside of McMinnville. With a deep-rooted passion for preserving food, Kim dove headfirst into the canning world and hasn’t looked back since. What started as a way to provide for her family quickly turned into a full-blown love affair with putting up every bit of the harvest. She's excited to share not only the how-to’s but also the do’s and don’ts she’s learned through her hands-on experience. Her practical, no-fuss approach makes her an incredible guide for anyone eager to learn.
